Colton Jace Wiser
My handsome little Prince! He was born Monday August 8th (8/8) weighing 8 lbs. 8 oz. and was 20.5 inches long. His birthday is 8/8, Kylee's is 1/8, and mine is 10/8. (I was actually hoping he'd be born the 8th)
Okay, now for his birth story. (Feel free to skip reading it if it's too long, I just want to write it all down before I forget all the details.) I was feeling pretty bummed after leaving the hospital last week when my contractions stopped, even though I was still 10 days from my due date. I had contractions here and there all week, but nothing too consistent. Ben and I went on a date to a movie late Saturday night and my contractions started up again half way through the show. Not too consistent, but pretty strong. They stopped by the time I went to bed, but started up again Sunday morning around 10:30. I had them all day Sunday and they were actually getting about 7 minutes apart that night. But of course, by 10:30 they were slowing way down and by midnight they had all but stopped. I was just going to have to get used to the fact I was going to be induced Tuesday and wouldn't be having him on my own. After only getting 2 hours of sleep, I was woken up at 2:00 am with a really strong contraction. Of course wide awake and excited now, I quietly got out of bed and went to watch a movie and time them. As soon as I sat down, they were every 5 minutes like clock work and getting pretty strong. I woke Ben up at 3:00 and told him he probably wanted to wake up. When he asked me "Why?", I realized what time it was and told him we should head to the hospital. I went in the bathroom and started getting ready, but had to stop and hold my breath with every contraction because they were getting stronger and stronger. We got all our stuff together and after Ben gave me a beautiful blessing, I snuck into Kylee's room to give her a kiss before we left. We got to the hospital around 4:00 and when the nurse came in to check me I was already at a 5 and 100%. I have a pretty good pain tolerance and those contractions were starting to get pretty intense! The nurse asked me if I wanted my epidural soon. You betcha!! My doctor came in and said the anesthesiologist would be right in, but that they were going to hold off delivery for 4 hours. My strep test came back positive this pregnancy so they needed to give me 2 doses of penicillin. One right then and one in 4 hours before they could break my water. After the epidural I was just sitting back watching the clock with Ben watching Sports Center :). I tried to get some sleep, but that didn't happen. At 9:00 the nurse checked me and said I was dilated to a 9+ and at a +1. My doctor wanted to wait one more hour to let him drop a little more. She came in to check me again at 10:00 and I was ready to start pushing. From the time I started pushing to when he was born was about 3 minutes. I thought Kylee was a really easy labor/delivery, but Colton was even easier. I was so lucky not to have any tearing and have had no swelling at all. I have to remind myself I just had a baby and to take it easy because I feel so great. He was crying as soon as he was born with the sweetest little soft cry. I think one of the most amazing feelings is when your new little baby is put on your chest and you get to see their beautiful little face for the first time. After he was all cleaned up, Kylee got to come in and meet her little brother. She was so sweet and asked us, "who that guy is?". When I told her it was baby Colton, she looked back and forth between him and my stomach. I'm sure it's a lot for a 2 1/2 year old to take in, but she got a huge smile and said, "No, him's my baby bruder." She watched them weigh him with her dad and bent down to say, "I'm Kylee. I'm your big sister." She hopped up next to me on the bed to hold him and gave him soft little kisses and touched his cheeks. Nothing like having your family all together.
