Sleep Suggestions
Again more pictures from weeks ago, but I never posted them. I love to watch my little guy sleep. He is so sweet and is sleeping so peacefully. I love to hold him and let him sleep on my chest, however, that is pretty much the only way he will nap during the day. At night once he falls asleep on me and I get him in bed, he doesn't have a problem staying asleep for a few hours until he's ready to eat. He does wake up to eat every 3 or 4 hours though, but that I can live with (for now). I just can't seem to get him to stay asleep for his naps if he's not on my chest. This wouldn't be a problem I didn't have another little sweetheart to be with. With Kylee all I had to do all day was be with her so we could nap on my bed together no problem. With Colton, it seems like as soon I put him in bed he wakes up fussing and can't get a good long nap on his own. A couple times he's fallen asleep in his car seat in the car and I've brought it in the house where he's slept for a few hours straight. He's also napped in his swing for a few hours a couple times, but I'd LOVE for him to nap in his bed good. Any suggestions????

I had a couple of problem nappers myself and I had to try a few different things with them. One thing you can do is try to put him in his bed when he starts to get sleepy but not asleep yet. Let him try to put himself to sleep. That way you won't have to move him once he's sleeping.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing (and I'm well aware how "horrible" this sounds) have you tried putting him to sleep on his tummy. If he is used to sleeping on his tummy on you it may be startling to find himself on his back in the middle of his sleeping. We had this problem with Dyson and once we started putting him on his tummy he was a great napper.
Hope this helps.
If nothing else you can always try having "movie time" with Kylee while Colton is taking his snooze.
Oh man, I went through this EXACT same this with Macie. To be honest, I was so desperate for her to sleep that I just let her sleep however she would, which included in her carseat on top of the drier, and in her swing. The drier thing was just for like a week, the swing was for a couple of months. We even packed our swing with us on trips just so that she would nap. She did fine in her crib at night, it was just during the day we used it. I was super stressed that I was creating horrible habits, but when she was 4ish months old I gradually started having her nap in her bed and she did fine at that point. The only other thing I can think of is swaddling....do you swaddle Colton? We swaddled Macie til she was probably 6 months old and I think that helped her quite a bit. Good luck, it's super hard when you don't get that nap time during the day! And as much as you'd love to just snuggle them, that's not always a possibility.
ReplyDeleteCody was my trouble napper!! It all comes down to having to teach them to self sooth. Like in the comment above, try to lay him down a little bit awake and sooth himself to sleep. This takes a few days and can get frustrating because you will have to listen to him scream a little bit, but it works miracles!! He will even start sleeping longer at night. I always held Cody while he fell asleep, then within 20 minutes of laying him down, he would be awake. Once I let him scream it out for a few days, he started taking wonderful naps. Hope it helps:)
